The Tweed Run: hugely popular and original London bicycle event is back on the streets for April 2010

Photo: Matt ShawFollowing last year’s huge success of the Tweed Run, organisers are pleased to announce Saturday 10 April 2010 as the date set for the second edition of this original London event. This quirky and fun event was first staged in London last year with entries reaching 250, and has since inspired copycat events world-wide including Boston, San Francisco, Chicago and most recently Washington D.C.

The Tweed Run is a social bicycle ride through London streets with all riders sporting tweed 1920s and 30s cycling attire. Participants can expect a day of leisurely riding in the company of fellow ladies and gentlemen dressed in plus-fours, Harris tweed jackets, merino wool team jerseys, silk cravats and jaunty flat caps, of course.

Jacqui Shannon, part of the double act behind the event, says, “The goal of the day is to have a bit of fun riding through London and show it’s possible to cycle whilst looking stylish. Dapper gents and elegant ladies will be dressed with panache as prizes will be up for grabs including awards for most dapper chap, best moustache and most gentlemanly behavior on the day.”

The ride is free to enter and participants will be able to register online at www.tweedrun.com from 27 February 2010. The event is expected to be hugely popular, and with participation limited to 400 riders, organisers are urging riders to register early.

The Tweed Run will depart from the heart of London at midday striking a leisurely pace. The ride is 14 miles long and the route will weave past a number of London landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral with a civilized tea break in the park. The ride finishes in Bishopsgate with a party, swing band and prizes awarded.

Ted Young-Ing, of the Tweed Run, says: “I am very pleased to announce the second edition of the London Tweed Run. This ride is a truly unique experience, and we’re pleased to bring it back to the street of London again this year. As in 2009, the Tweed Run will benefit Bikes4Africa and closer to the date, we are excited to be launching a number of limited edition products, in collaboration with some major brands.”

DanceComp Wuppertal 2010

February 1st, 2010 No comments

DanceComp Wuppertal is organised for the 7th time this year. The first five years with national competitions growing and expanding… Last year, 2009, was started with international competitions IDSF. The organisers had to stop the registration at about 1800 for the weekend (two days) which made some couples sad. Because of the tight time table not everybody could dance.

That is the reason why the time table was optimized in order to, spent one more day to the festival. So 2010 danceComp Wuppertal will already begin on Friday afternoon an last til Sunday as usual. The organizers increased the value of the IDSF Open Standard competition to an IDSF International Open. In addition to the main competitions Standard and Latin there will be Rising Stars Standard and Latin also.

There are expected around 2000 national and international registrations, maybe a few more for this year. IDSF Sports Director Heinz Spaker agreed his assignment as Chairman again and is looking forward to it. Many international adjudicators are pleased to follow the invitations. The stunning town hall with its charm and beauty fits with the cordial stuff to make it one of the most popular competition festivals in ballroom dancing.
